The Chesapeake Bay is one of the most complex estuary systems in the world, with over 11,684 miles of coastline. The Bay is rendered in meticulously appliqued gold or blue polysilk, layered on top of a pale blue or navy blue cotton; roads and ocean topography are entirely hand-stitched. Map area covers the watershed from Richmond and Norfolk, VA to Baltimore, MD and Wilmington, DE.
