Who we are
Haptic Lab is a design studio born in Brooklyn in 2009, founded by architect and maker Emily Fischer. We work with our hands and our hearts to create tactile, sensory objects that invite people to slow down and feel.
Emily stitched her first quilted maps when her mother was diagnosed with glaucoma; those early pieces were meant to help others navigate the world by touch. That simple idea still inspires everything we make today.
In a world racing toward the digital, Haptic Lab is a place rooted firmly in the physical. We believe in materials you can hold, textures that spark memory, and objects that help you discover wonder in the everyday. Our quilts, kites, and art pieces are crafted at the crossroads of technology and tradition, where playful imagination meets the timeless magic of handmade work.
Haptic Lab is a small team of artisans, designers, and joyful tinkerers. Together, we’re redefining how beautiful objects come into the world by valuing transparency, care, and craft every step of the way.

Thank you Catalina for bringing our story to life.
"Our tactile experiences are elemental. If we reduce their range… we grow lopsided. We touch things to assure ourselves of reality. We touch the objects of our love. We touch the things we form."
