These handmade banners honor the historic rallying cry of the suffrage and labor movements: Bread and Roses. First spoken by activist Helen Todd in 1911 and later immortalized in James Oppenheim’s poem, the phrase stands for both fair wages (bread) and dignity, beauty, and quality of life (roses). Stitched in our Brooklyn studio using reclaimed textiles, the banner is a tribute to those who marched for more than survival.

"As we come marching, marching, in the beauty of the day, / A million darkened kitchens, a thousand mill-lofts gray"
