Handmade American Flag

A collection of handmade American Flags made in collaboration with textile artist Sara Kraemer. Sara sews on a treadle machine Singer Model 27 from 1894, passed down from her great-grandmother, who once stitched flags and banners for her family's shop on Fulton Street!

Each unique flag is made from Sara’s incredible vintage fabric collection, pieced together to form a patchwork rich with memory—just like America itself, where every thread (and every person) has a place.

MATERIALS 

Hand Dyed Linen: Linen hand-dyed in avocado, off-white cotton, and a patchwork of blue (antique cadet blue calico, vintage cotton, vintage chambray, chambray from a shirt, cotton twill)

Shades of Blue: indigo linen, denim, antique ticking, and a patchwork of blue (antique gingham, antique indigo calico, vintage denim, vintage plaid, cotton, chambray)

Cream & Plaid: Off-white denim, vintage and modern plaids, and a patchwork of blue (antique indigo calico, chambray, denim, corduroy, cotton)

Red White & Blue Cotton: Red chambray, off-white cotton, and a patchwork of blue (vintage and modern denim, antique indigo calico, chambray from a shirt, cotton)

Happy Trails To You: Red check cotton, vintage “happy trails to you” cotton, and a patchwork of blue (antique indigo calico, vintage denim, cotton, chambray)

Shades of White: Off-white silk from a wedding dress, eggshell and white linens, and a patchwork of antique calico, vintage cotton, cotton canvas, and off-white denim
